VicTsing Gaming Keyboard with Red Switches

A capable, budget-friendly mechanical keyboard that stands up to more expensive options.

I am a child of the 1980s. That means I grew up with an Atari as our first gaming system and computer lab time in school was something we longed for the entire week. Those old computer labs had enormous CRT monitors and of course, heavy, metal-laden mechanical keyboards. Until just a couple of years ago, I had forgotten how magical it can be to type on a set of mechanical keys. Now that I have been reminded, I have been on the search for the ‘ideal’ keyboard for my at-home set-up. I’ve been really happy with most of the ones I’ve found, but some of them as incredibly expensive. One of my favorites — the SteelSeries M800 — retails for around $170 and there are even others that cost as much as $300. That’s a lot to invest in on a set of keys that you don’t know you’re compatible with. Fortunately, some keyboard designers provide more budget-friendly options like this one from VicTsing.

The VicTsing Gaming Keyboard with Red Switches retails for around $35 (USD) and is perfectly capable of completing most keyboard-driven tasks. It’s a full 104-key board and features 100% anti-ghosting. While it comes with a palm/wrist rest installed, it is removable and the kickstand can elevate the keyboard to a 6º angle. In addition to featuring red switches, the keyboard also has a dynamic red LED backlighting. The red switches have been tested for up to 50 million keystrokes and the function keys can serve as multimedia shortcuts so that your gaming experience goes uninterrupted.

IMPRESSIONS

The VicTsing Gaming Keyboard with Red Switches came in a very simple cardboard box. It is white with “Mechanical Gaming Keyboard” printed on the top. One suggestion that I would give about this is to actually give the keyboard some sort of model name. The model is noted on the box, but anywhere I’ve seen it online, the model isn’t referred to. I’ve love to see this keyboard called something like, “Red Dragon,” or “Inferno.” It would distinguish itself further from competing keyboards.

As far as typing goes, I’ve found the keyboard very comfortable. The wrist rest is a little too short for me to benefit from, but I love that the keyboard has kickstands to keep it at an angle. That makes it easier for me to type for long periods of time. I find the red switches to be wonderful for word processing and other quick response tasks. There were some reviews I read online that indicated that the quick response of the keys was ‘too quick,’ but I actually thought it was just right. With this keyboard, I was able to average 75 words per minute when I normally average 65–68 WPM.

In addition to standard operating tasks, I also enjoyed some gaming while testing out the VicTsing Gaming Keyboard with Red Switches. I played several rounds of Team Fortress 2 and found that it was quite easy to navigate the FPS/Adventure game with the VicTsing keyboard attached to my computer. I did experience any sort of slow down or hesitations due to the keyboard.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The VicTsing Gaming Keyboard with Red Switches is a really nice compliment to any computing system. I have it connected via a USB-C dock to my MacBook Pro and it works beautifully. It’s great for any sort of task you can throw at it and best of all, it won’t break the bank.
