You can’t underestimate the value of a good phone case. I remember a time when cases weren’t made for protection, but rather as a vanity plate for phones. When I had a Motorola Razr, it only came in one color. One of my friends had a phone that had a bright colorful finish to it. I wanted to add a case to my Razr simply to have a different color on my phone. At the time, those cases were expensive — too expensive for using it simply as a color change option.

Today, however, is a different story. Cases are an essential part of a phone’s lifespan because they ensure its safety through a person’s daily life. The nice thing is that not only do cases provide a protection function, but they also give users a fashion plate to place on their phone. Velvet Caviar strives to provide cases to customers that have designers they will love with quality and protection that they can count on.

DETAILS

Velvet Caviar has a wide range of designs (150+ styles of camo, marble, clear, wallet, glitter, and more) to appeal to all types of users. All their cases are meant to provide:

Full 360º bumper protection
Shock absorption
Screen protection with a 3mm raised lip
Long-lasting cases — made from premium TPU & PC materials

“Pretty yet protective” is their company slogan and mission. Velvet Caviar wants to make the ‘coolest’ cases without sacrificing protection standards. In addition to the phone cases, Velvet Caviar also designs phone rings — a cousin to the Popsocket. The phone ring is meant to give you a comfortable way to grip your phone. It doubles as a stand and gives you more control over how you can use your phone. The phone ring from Velvet Caviar uses 3M adhesive to attach to your existing phone case or the back of your phone. Velvet Caviar has taken a lot of care to design their phone rings to compliment their cases. For example, the Black Marble Rose Gold case has a coordinating Black Marble Rose Gold phone ring.

USER EXPERIENCE

I was fortunate enough to be able to test out three different cases from Velvet Caviar — Black Marble Rose Gold, Mint Mirror Wallet, and the Green Camo. All of the cases had the exact same retail packaging. The front of the box had a transparent covering so you could see the case inside the box, but the box itself did not indicate what the name of the case was.

All three of the designs were well made and felt substantial. The Mint Mirror Wallet has the unique feature of a hidden compartment where you can store credit cards. It also has a mirror placed inside for personal use. This particular case was my least favorite of the three. It ended up being very hard to remove from my phone and the compartment door was hard to open. The difficulty I had with opening/closing the compartment door was enough to keep me from wanting to use the case at all.

The same is not true of the Black Marble Rose Gold. I found it very easy to install my phone into this case and even though it has rigid sidewalls, the case is still flexible enough to be able to get the phone in and out with little problems. Along with this case, I had the matching phone ring as an accessory. This is one way that I think Velvet Caviar stands out from the crowd. These phone rings are designed to match the cases exactly and while they don’t blend in 100%, it looks really great and looks like it belongs. The phone ring rotates easily but is very firm in holding the phone as a stand. I’ve found I actually prefer the phone ring to a pop socket with my phone because I can adjust the angle at which my phone stands. The ring is a great accessory to have attached to your phone.

Finally, the Green Camo case adds a unique touch of flare to your phone. I’ve never really seen a camouflage case before this one and while I typically don’t enjoy Camo, I really liked the design of this print. The case fit onto my iPhone in the same manner as the Black Marble Rose Gold, but the finish wasn’t quite as slick so it was a bit easier to handle.

CONCLUSION

I like the options that Velvet Caviar presents its customers. There are hundreds of designs to choose from and the cases are solid for good protection. The prices are reasonable, but I hope that at some point Velvet Caviar updates their packaging to at least label what’s inside.
