Trello List-Making App REVIEW

I have a confession. I make lists. I am a list-maker and while sometimes it helps me feel more organized, the lists do get out of control and sometimes, my lists and lists. For years, I’ve struggled with this and searched for an app that would help me keep all my lists organized, was free to use, and could be used on several platforms (iPhone, iPad, Mac, web interface). I finally found the solution in Trello.

Trello is a web-based list-making application that was originally released in 2011. I remember years ago stumbling upon it, but not really enjoying the interface. About 2 months ago, I downloaded it for my iPhone, fell in love with it, and started using it on all my major systems.

Trello is flexible in its uses. Some suggested options for use are real estate management, software project management, school bulletin boards, lesson planning, accounting, web design, gaming and even law office case management. It is this flexibility that really caught my attention because I make lists for three main areas of my life — review management, school work, and work. Each area is vastly different from the one before it so I love that Trello gives you the ability to use it how it will work best for you.

I used to work as a project manager for a marketing firm and this would have been a great app to use to keep up with all the aspects of a project — from beginning to end.

Trello is updated regularly with its last upgrade happening on February 14, 2019 (current version 4.10.1). The app is free to use even though there are premium subscription plans you can enroll in (Business Class $9.99/month or Enterprise $20.83/month paid yearly) or the ‘gold’ package through the iTunes App Store ($4.99/month or $44.99/year). That said, I believe most users can use the FREE version and be happy with it. With the free version you get:

• Unlimited boards, lists, cards, members, checklists, and attachments.
• One Power-Up per Board
• Attach files up to 10MB from your computer, or link any file from your Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, or OneDrive.

You also have access to all your boards on all the platforms that are available. This was a big bonus to me because there are a lot of cloud-based apps (like Bear) that will allow you free unlimited use on one machine but will require you to pay a fee to unlock the ability to use it on others for a fee only.

To get started, you create a BOARD. This step only requires that you select a name, visibility, and a background color for the Board. The background really just makes it easier to identify the board when you have several boards you are working with. After the Board is created you can start making LISTS. Each board can have an infinite number of lists. And each list can have an infinite number of cards. Each card can have details and a running dialogue (through comments) between members. You have the ability to sort the cards within a list and you even have a running activity log of actions completed in on the boards from the side menu option.

Trello is really a great option for organizing all aspects of your life. I am so glad that it’s an available app for everyone to use without limits.
