Seville Classics AIRLIFT Tempered Glass Electric Standing Desk

A one-of-a-kind standing desk experience.
A few years ago, I started having extremely bad back pain. It’s not unusual to have aches and pains when you sit for 8+ hours per day. I try my best to get up every hour or so to walk around and stretch, but I still find myself having some pretty awful back pain. The pain is in part caused by an old injury, but I’ve found that it’s been exacerbated by inactivity due to the nature of my job. One of the potential solutions I’ve explored has been using a standing desk. There are lots of studies out there — like the one in this article from U.S. News Health — that outline how long periods of sitting can cause the misalignment of the spine and knees as well as increased shoulder and back pain. So, I’ve decided to integrate a sit-stand desk into my daily workspace.
I’ve used standing desks in the past and decided to get one that integrated a few special elements — namely a storage drawer and a USB charging outlet. The Airlift Height Adjustable Electric Desk from Seville Classics ended up being an ideal choice for me.

USER EXPERIENCE
Based on my previous experience with smart/standing desks, I was very excited to get started with this new desk because it was so different assembly-wise than other desks I’ve tested. The first thing I noticed was the exterior shipping carton. The desk was shipped to us using a standard shipping method (FedEx, UPS, etc.) and it arrived as shown in the picture below. I was concerned, based on previous experience with furniture shipping, that the pieces in the inside of the carton might be damaged. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the pieces — the top, legs, and the feet and tools were all concealed inside the shipping carton were surrounded by lots of cardboard and interior packaging. The tears on the outside did not bleed through into the parts on the inside. I give a lot of credit to Seville Classics for that.
When you first open the carton and remove some of the interior packaging, you will find the instructions. You are instructed to remove all the parts to ensure that they are in good shape and that nothing is missing. Assembly is incredibly simple. You screw the legs into the top and then the feet into the legs. It is suggested that you uncover the pre-assembled top in the carton while you add the feet and legs to reduce the chance that the top would get damaged while assembling. It also saves space.
One of the things I really appreciate about this assembly process is that the top is pre-assembled. The control box and is already attached to the bottom of the desktop and so is the control panel. All the cables are already run and hidden. It literally takes 15 minutes or less to assemble this desk. It is heavy. I believe that it is heavy mostly because of the tempered glass top and steel frame. The product page on Seville Classics’s website lists the weight of the desk at 82.9 pounds. One of the other brands of standing desks that I’m familiar with is Autonomous and their largest desktop only weighs in at 62 pounds. Now, the weight isn’t necessarily a negative strike against the Airlift desk, but it does make it difficult to move around without help.
Another minor issue I had was with the desk assembly was how the cable from the controller box connects to the leg (see image above). There isn’t a lot of slack that comes out of the leg and so there ends up being a lot of strain on the cable if you attempt to tuck the cable away. I would like to see there be a bit more slack on the cable so that users can lay it flat against the top of the desk.
There are some beautiful features of this Airlift desk including a drawer with built-in divider. It’s the perfect size for basic needs items. It’s lined and it opens and closing easily. I also love the 2.4A USB ports included with the control panel. They are perfect for charging portable devices quickly and easily. The control panel is easy to program and use, too. The manual provides instructions on how to initialize the control panel. These are also the instructions for resetting the controls when needed. There are three spots where users can store different heights for the desk. The spots are programmed similarly to the way other desks work, but one big difference is in the way you select the position you want. If you have position 2 stored and you want to select it, you have to tap the second spot twice for it to move to that level.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The desk is a solid piece of furniture and does a great job of providing a standing workspace environment. I love how easy it is to assemble and it’s compact. For people who need a larger desk space, I don’t know how well this would work out, but it’s great to add-on to an existing office like I did with mine. The Airlift Height Adjustable Electric Desk is a really nice option for a standing desk.
