When you need to keep your gear alive

When you get excited about technology, you normally don’t think it would ever be about rechargeable AA batteries and their charging hub. I can tell you I am a weird breed but I know that others are excited about this as well because of what these batteries can do. Powerex has a wonderful offering that brings the old AA battery into the 21st century — the Turbo Charger-Analyzer. It works for both AA and AAA battery types and not only that it also works for other battery manufactured brands.

DETAILS

The Turbo Charger-Analyzer will charge up to 8 AA or AAA nickel-metal hydride batteries in approximately one hour. It has a special one-touch battery health analyzer with the actual capacity readout to provide accurate data on the large backlit LCD. The Turbo Charge mode will charge batteries twice as fast than when it’s in default mode. The charger also has a Thermal Management System to ensure your batteries remain cool while charging. You can also charge older batteries with the Turbo Charger-Analyzer by using the Deep Battery Conditioning System to revitalize them.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX

  • MH-C980 Turbo Charger-Analyzer
  • Compact 100–240V worldwide Power Adapter
  • Reusable battery holder/storage case for 8 AA or 10 AAA batteries
  • User Manual (not pictured)

Note: In addition to this standard package with the Turbo Charger-Analyzer I also have the Powerex Pro Rechargeable AA NiMH Batteries and the Powerex Accessory Padded Bag, which Powerex sells separately from the Turbo Charger-Analyzer.

USER EXPERIENCE

Getting the Turbo Charger-Analyzer setup was a breeze. You simply remove it from its box and plug it into a wall outlet using the provided AC adapter. Then, you load the batteries you want to charge or analyze and walk away to let the Powerex Charger do its job. I struggle a lot with batteries and really prefer to have devices be rechargeable. The road block I ran into was with my camera flash. It has to have 4-AA batteries in order to power it. In addition to that, I also have a remote trigger that, guess what?, takes AA batteries. So, I was thrilled to find this recharging station. It does live up to its one-hour battery charge promise and the LCD is incredibly easy to read. I love that this has the analyzer function for older batteries. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reached into our battery drawer and pulled out dead batteries. This feature reminds me of the way that our rechargeable batteries work for our power tools. Those chargers also have the analyzing function and it’s a godsend to be able to know when it’s time to replace a battery.

CONCLUSION

I have been using Eneloop rechargeable batteries for my Camera flash and wireless flash trigger. They have been doing a fantastic job and now I can keep them fully charged and also use the amazing batteries from Powerex when I am doing a photo shoot. The Charger-Analyzer is an amazing add on to any photographers gear set and I have been using the heck out of this gadget.

NOTE: Powerex is currently offering a TRADE-IN deal for a discount on the MH-C980 Turbo Charger-Analyzer and any other items you order. If you trade-in any NiMH/NiCD charger when you purchase the MH-C980 Turbo Charger-Analyzer, you will receive a 15% discount! Click here for more details.
