I am a huge lover of music. I’ve never really met a music style I don’t like and I really enjoy being able to take music with me no matter where I go. That said, I’ve not really had a quality set of headphones that enhanced my listening experience. Earlier this week, I was provided a wonderful set of over-the-ear Bluetooth headphones from Phiaton — the BT 460 headphones.
The BT 460s are wireless headphones and have a variety of options included. Out of the box, the headphones impressed me. They have a unique style to them and they come with a slick storage case. The headphones ship with two cables — a Micro USB cable for charging and a 3.5mm stereo headphone cable for using the headphones as a ‘wired’ device. The headphones feature Bluetooth 4.0 and will operate with a range of up to 33 feet. In my experience, they worked just fine when I walked around the house and left my phone in the living room. The BT 460s have some impressive specs including:
- Type: 40 mm Driver Unit
- Frequency Range: 10 Hz ~ 27 kHz
- Impedance: 32 Ohm
- THD: Less than 5% up to 1kHz
- Sensitivity: 99 dB at 1 kHz
Before I got the Phiaton BT 460 Headphones I was using earbuds most of the time. While they worked, they were constantly slipping out of my ears and sometimes they wouldn’t work at all. The BT 460s make it so I don’t have to worry about earbuds anymore and I like that. The headphones are amazingly comfortable to wear. I’ve sat in my room listening to music for hours and have not felt any fatigue or soreness from them. I love how they are easily adjustable and that they fold up nice and neat for storing when they aren’t in use.
If there is one thing that rivals my love of music it’s my love of art. I really enjoy drawing and painting and I really appreciate bright colorful objects. This is probably another reason that I adore the BT 460s — they come in a variety of colors including black, white, pink and purple. I should note here that the white and black headphones have silver accents while the purple headphones are black with purple accents, and the pink headphones are white headphones with pink accents. The pink color is a really nice complement to the Apple Rose Gold iPhone. I love the color purple so naturally, I was drawn to that option. Regardless of color, the headphones are sleek and stylish and provide users with a superior designed set of cans.
The controls were a new feature to me. As I mentioned, I’ve only really experienced earbuds prior to these awesome headphones so I wasn’t accustomed to the touch controls on the side of the right ear piece. It can be a bit of bear to learn the different controls, but once you get used to them, it’s almost like second nature. It’s really easy to turn the volume up and down, which is probably the main control I use. With just a swipe of your finger in the up or down direction, you can adjust the volume to just the right level. I’ve included the diagram from the manual to illustrate the different motions you can use to have the headphones behave the way you like. To answer a phone call (assuming you’re connected to your phone), you simply double tap the touch surface. The same action is needed to start playing music or pausing it when it’s already playing. You can also advance or rewind your track by swiping forward or backward on the touch panel.
In addition to the touch panel controls, there is also a standard power button. The first time you turn on the headphones, you will enter pairing mode and the headphones should appear in your Bluetooth device menu fairly quickly. I found that they appeared in my phone’s menu immediately, but it took a few seconds for them to show up on my computer’s Bluetooth menu. To turn off the headphones, you simply press/hold the power button until you hear a musical tone. It takes about 5–7 seconds for the headphones to turn off.
So you are probably wondering what I thought about the sound quality. Well, I thought that the bass was very powerful and that voice tracks came through very clear. I was very impressed with the volume level that the headphones provide. They are very loud and I have no complaints as far as that is concerned. The call quality leaves something to be desired as it’s a bit muffled sounding. I’m willing to deal with that though because the headphones are so easy to use and I’ve not found many headsets that accept calls that can really compete with a call through the phone itself.
One really cool feature of the Phiaton BT 460s is ShareMe. With the ShareMe feature, you can share your music with another user that has the BT 460 headphones. I’ve seen this option before with other brands (Moshi Mythro Air and Vortex Air Wireless Earphones) but in those cases, an app is almost always needed to connect the two sets of headphones. Phiaton actually has it set up so that you can connect the two headphones by placing them into a ShareMe mode and no app is needed. I did not have a chance to test this feature out since I was the only one around with these headphones, but I did like the concept of it.
I was, however, able to try out the Multipoint Connection option of the BT 460s and loved it! I will often switch from listening to music on my phone to watching Netflix on my computer. The ability to be connected to two devices simultaneously is wonderful and I’m very happy that these awesome headphones allow for it.
I thought that battery life was pretty good. Phiaton has 20 hours talk/music time listed under the specs of the headphones and while I didn’t go that long, I never found myself with a dead set of cans. They charge via Micro USB and when I had used them for about 4 hours straight, I put them on charge so that they were ready the next time I wanted to use them. Phiaton states that it will take about 3 hours to charge them completely from a 0% battery state.
The Phiaton BT 460 Headphones are easy to use and are great for music lovers everywhere. The product designers at Phiaton are outstanding and I personally love these headphones. Their style, light weight design, amazing controls, and sound quality are great and I love having this device available for the music lover in me. The Phiaton BT 460s can be used and taken anywhere. They are almost like a lifestyle than a headset.
