Pacific Tech 9.6-inch Tablet REVIEW
There is a tablet for every occasion.
Over the past few years, I’ve determined that there is a tablet for every time and place. They come in very handy when trying to keep children occupied on long road trips when you are trying to correspond with clients remotely, and even when you are trying to order dinner online. Even though smartphones are powerful tiny computers, there is just something a bit more convenient with a tablet. Some tablets — premium models like the Apple iPad, Microsoft Surface, or Sony Xperia series — that are just a bit too pricey for users who just need to be portable. This tablet from Pacific Tech fits the bill and doesn’t damage the pocketbook at the same time.
On the surface, the Pacific Tech 9.6-inch tablet is a very capable tablet. It features a widescreen HD touchscreen with a 1280 x 800 resolution. It has a fully laminated IPS LCD display, which helps to reduce glare. The tablet comes equipped with Android 5.1 (Lollipop) and 50GB of memory (16 GB Flash Memory, 2 GB RAM Memory, optional Micro SD card up to 32GB in size). The internal processing power is made up of two high performance 1.5 GHz cores and two 1.2 GHz cores running simultaneously. The quad-core processor makes the tablet more power efficient and ensures fast load times on apps and smooth user experiences when it comes to video gameplay and video viewing. The camera that is included has a little less than stellar specs, but it’s better than a lot of budget tablets I’ve seen. It has a 5MP rear-facing camera and a 2MP front-facing HD camera.
When I started testing the Pacific Tech tablet, I found it to be very peppy. I toured the pre-installed apps, connected a Google account to it and then downloaded a couple of additional apps. For testing purposes, I tried out Tetris and Netflix. Tetris played very well. I found the graphics to be of high quality and the movements to be nice and smooth. In general, I found the screen quality to be good. When I opened up Netflix, the app loaded quickly and the movie I selected started almost right away. I would say it was just as quick as starting up Netflix on my iPhone 6. Once the movie started, I wasn’t very happy with the video quality, but the sound was wonderful. The volume level was very strong and I wouldn’t have any problem with listening to music or video audio with just the tablet’s speakers. The tablet actually comes packaged with a screen protector and basic case. I would highly recommend installing the screen protector immediately because I found that the screen scratches very easily. I was cleaning some fingerprint smudges off of the screen with a microfiber cleaning cloth meant for eyeglasses and there were dozens of surface scratches across the screen. The body do seem to be very tough and I think it will hold up well over time.
There are a lot of budget-grade tablets in the marketplace that are great for everyday use and the performance of this tablet is quite impressive. With the one exception of the fragile screen, I found this to be a very nice tablet. It’s great for many different uses.
