I’m a fan of headphones. I really love to listen to music during every part of my day but I don’t like to inconvenience anyone around me so I end up using some form of headphones. I’ve become a huge fan of wireless headphones in the past few years and there are many different styles so I try out as many as I can. The HS-3 with HDR earphones are a brand new release from Origem.

DETAILS

The Origem HS-3 headphones are designed to be sport headphones with advanced audio technology. The headphones feature the perfect combination of subwoofer, mid-range and high-frequency speakers. It also includes HDR (high-dynamic range), which features an algorithm that detects the sound pressure of the listening environment and adjusts for different audio levels. The HS-3 headphones are considered ‘real’ hands-free and allow the user to activate built-in voice assistants with a simple voice command. The headphones are designed with ear hooks so that they can better fit all ear shapes and stay situated in the ear canal no matter what activity is being completed. The headphones are rated IPX5 and are certified to be sweat and weather-resistant. These headphones also feature a 6-hour battery life with a quick charge session of only 30 minutes. When they are released, there will be three colors available: silver, red, and charcoal.

USER EXPERIENCE

The HS-1 headphones I had the privilege of testing were a pre-release. Therefore, the packaging was not finalized. The headphones, ear tips, charging cable, and user manual was tucked away inside the carrying case. The case was packaged inside a blank, brown cardboard box. I love that the headphones come with a carrying case, but I do wish it was a little larger as the headphones seemed cramped inside the case. Once I took them out of the case, I turned them on by pressing and holding the multipurpose button for a few seconds. The first time you turn on the headphones, they will automatically enter pairing mode. I use an iPhone Xs and the item “Origem crazy mix” appeared in my Bluetooth list within just a few seconds of powering on the headphones.

The in-line controls are pretty standard. There is a multipurpose button and volume up/down buttons. The Micro USB port is also located on the in-line controls and is hidden behind a small silicone cover. The controls are very tactile in nature and easy to use even when you can’t see them. I actually prefer these types of controls instead of touch-touch-sensitive controls that are popular with earbuds these days.

I have to admit that earbuds rarely impress me. They don’t typically have a comfortable fit for me and even when they do, the sound quality just isn’t what I want it to be. The HS-3 earphones are awesome and definitely pass the test for me. I placed the earbuds in my ear and wrapped the ear hook around the back of my ear. The headphones stayed securely in place and they were comfortable for a long period of time. A lot of times, earbuds will form a vacuum-type seal that just becomes unbearable for me to wear. Since the HS-3 earphones have the ear hooks, the headphones are held in place without having that horrible vacuum feeling included. I’ve been very happy with these headphones since I started wearing them.

The sound quality is comparable to what I experience with an over-the-ear headphone. There is solid bass and rich depth to music and spoken word audio tracks. I continue to be impressed with the quality of the sound that the headphones put out. Again, since I haven’t had good success with earbuds, I wasn’t expecting much and the HS-3 earphones just blew away my low expectations. These are honestly going to be the ‘standard’ by which I judge other earbuds.

CONCLUSION

If you are looking for superior quality earbuds, I can wholeheartedly recommend the HS-3 earphones from Origem. They are very well-made and provide a fantastic listening experience. They are perfect for any activity. At the time of publishing this article, the headphones are not available for sale, but you have the option to join Origem’s mailing list to receive a discount on them when they are released.
