I can’t go anywhere without my iPhone these days. It is in my hands constantly. It helps me get work done, relax, track how lazy — I mean how active I am, and it helps me connect with friends and family via social media. After the iPhone became apart of my daily routine, I then integrated an Apple Watch. Smart watches have changed how we do everything again. I love my Apple Watch. I honestly don’t know how I went so long without it. This scares me severely. I am very dependent on the Apple Watch, at home and especially at work. Being able to check emails and texts messages without having to look at my phone saves me time and frustration.
The only downside I really see with the Apple Watch is its battery life. The more you use it, the faster the battery drains. I solve the battery life problem with my iPhone by carrying around a power bank and charging cable for it, but with the Apple Watch, the charging cable and puck is a little more cumbersome than a standard cable. Much to my surprise and delight, there is a product out on the market that combines exactly what I need and want for charging both devices. Oittm’s 5000mAh Portable Charger stands and delivers a powerful dual-charging option for the Apple user.
The 5000mAh Portable Charger has a built-in 5000mAh battery as the name would suggest. It has a standard USB port for the ability to charge any type of device — in my case, an iPhone. The other method of charging is designed for the Apple Watch. OITTM integrated a built-in magnetic charging module to recharge our precious smartwatches. The power bank will provide approximately 6 charges for the Apple Watch or 2 charges for the iPhone (based off the iPhone 7). The portable charger supports passthrough charging and will charge devices even the battery itself is being charged. You can completely recharge the power bank in about 3 hours with a 2.4A adapter.
The OITTM 5000mAh Portable Charger is compact and perfect for travel. The LED indicator displays the battery level and the device is Apple MFi certified. It comes packaged with a Micro USB cable (for recharging the battery) and a short instruction manual. It will recharge with standard wall power adapter but does not ship with one.
As it turns out, I had an interesting opportunity to test out this handy little device. On Thursday, November 2, I made my way to our local Verizon corporate store to wait out the night in the hopes that I would get my hands on a precious iPhone X on Friday, November 3 when the store opened. As I waited out the night with the motley crew that assembled, I used up my Apple Watch power and made a severe dent in my iPhone battery. I had many videos stored on it to watch to keep me sane throughout the night so I wanted to keep the devices at the ready.
The 5000mAh Portable Charger fits nicely in a person’s hands — even smaller hands like mine. This means that it’ll fit in most pants pockets, gym bag, purse, or brief case. It’s very portable. The majority of the charger is metal with the ends being plastic. The biggest take away is that the charging puck for the Apple Watch is built directly into the power bank. There are no more cables to tangle up and no more frustration trying to fit the puck into terribly designed spaces with other charging options. Operation is basic and straight forward. You power on the charger with the only button on the device and drop your Apple Watch onto the puck. That’s it. Sadly, you still have to charge the battery with the included Micro USB cable. OITTM states that this charger will work with all Apple Watch models (series 1, 2, and 3). For me, it’s a huge lifesaver since I’ve noticed my watch’s battery life is starting to fade.
Speaking of lifesavers, OITTM’s 5000mAh Portable Charger is making life easy as I write this review. As I mentioned above, I’m currently sitting outside of a cellular provider. I worked all day and came here to be the first in line for the launch of the iPhone X. I used my Apple Watch all day and its battery is showing it. Thanks to the OITTM 5000mAh Portable Charger, I am charging my phone and watch as I sit back and wait. I’ll be ready for anything as soon as those glorious doors open I’ll be able to pair with my new phone.
