NOMAD Kevlar Charging Cables

10

The Most Durable Charging Cable Around

I hate cables. They always seem to cause a jumbled mess of clutter and I just can’t deal with that. Unfortunately, they are a necessary evil to me. I can’t live without them so I try to find the best cables available in order to keep frustration down to a minimum. That’s why I love NOMAD cables so much. They have the minimalist in mind with every single design they roll out and today, they released several new cables that I refer to as the “Kevlar Collection.”

DETAILS

This brand new line of charging cables features ‘industry-leading’ specs including a full wrap Kevlar outer sheath. There are 11 cables in this collection and they are built to last. In addition to the Kevlar wrap, each cable has an over-molded alloy plug housing and transfer point. This ensures more durability than other cables on the market. All the cables in the Kevlar Collection are engineered with premium quality components for fast-charging and data transfer. NOMAD also provides a 5-year warranty for every cable in the collection.

  • 3M — $39.95
  • Universal USB-A: Standard USB-A cable with Micro USB, USB-C, and Lightning adapters on one end.
  • 0.3M — $29.95
  • 1.5M — $39.95

USER EXPERIENCE

Even though I have uses for all the cables listed above, I opted for the Universal USB-A cable. The main reason for this is because it included a Lightning adapter as well as the USB-C and Micro USB adapters. I would have preferred the Universal USB-C, but it’s not yet available with a Lightning adapter. The Universal cable is designed to transition quickly between the three different charging connectors. The cable is reinforced with double-braided Kevlar on the outside and strong metal alloy connector housings. NOMAD has engineered this cable for extreme durability.

Some of its features include:

  • Kevlar® outer braid
  • Kevlar® central core
  • USB-A to Micro-USB core cable
  • Lightning and USB-C adapters
  • Metal alloy connector plugs
  • Integrated cable tie
  • 1.5M Length or 0.3M length
  • Apple MFi approved
  • Kevlar® 29 (K29) Aramid Fiber outer braid & inner core
  • Metal connector housing
  • Vulcanized LSR silicone cable tie
  • RF Shield for Fast Sync
  • Fire resistant PVC jacket
  • 20AWG for Fast Charging
  • Length: 1.5m
  • USB 2.0
  • Supports up to 2.4 Amps at 5 Volts (12W), Quick Charge compatible
  • iPhone and iPad
  • USB-C devices
  • Android and tablets
  • Bluetooth speakers and mice

So far, I’ve been very impressed with the Universal cable’s performance. I have the 1.5M (3-foot) version, which is a little cumbersome, but it’s come in handy in the car and when I’m away from my home office. I’ve tried out NOMAD’s universal cables in the past and while they’ve been amazing to use, they can’t really beat this awesome new version with the reinforced Kevlar sheath. The cable is still flexible, but it feels incredibly solid at the same time.

My favorite feature with the Universal cable is the sliding cable connector system that NOMAD has designed to go along with it. The connecters slide easily into place and they snap into place on top of the Micro USB connector. I feel that because of the sliding connectors, they are more secure and the cable is more stable in general.

To test the efficiency of the charging cable, I plugged the USB-A end into a 5V2.4A USB charging port and the Lightning end of the cable into an iPad Pro 10-inch. The iPad’s battery was completely drained. Charging from a dead battery, it took 3 hours and 39 minutes to fully charge the iPad. That’s a rate of 0.46% of battery life per minute.

CONCLUSION

The Kevlar Universal USB-A cable is a fantastic choice for a durable, long-lasting cable. I really love that this is a substantial upgrade from the Ultra Rugged Charging Cable line of products that NOMAD had previously. Even if you’ve experienced their charging cables before, now is the time to revisit NOMAD’s charging cables.
