Moshi Altra iPhone Case
8.3
Case provides security and flexibility for active users.
I’m a fanatic about having a case on my phone. I will usually not even use a new iPhone without having a case on it first. While I like to use many different styles of cases, I always want one firm thing — protection. With that in mind, I was really excited to be able to try out one of Moshi’s new cases — the Altra — with my iPhone 11 Pro.
DETAILS & FEATURES
The Altra is a slim case that comes with a detachable wrist strap. It’ s meant to ‘redefine’ hands-free as a concept and convenience. The case itself is a hardshell case with a durable covering on its exterior. The Altra is designed for an ‘active’ lifestyle. The strap is supposed to help provide “convenience when carrying coffee, boxes, toddlers, pets, etc. It also provides added security when taking photos or walking in crowded spaces.” The body of the case is military-grade drop-test certified and has a raised bezel to protect the phone’s screen. The case is compatible with wireless charging and 100% non-toxic.
USER EXPERIENCE
The Altra case comes in a simple retail package that includes a picture of the product on the front. There are some details about the product included on the box. When I first slid the box open, I was immediately taken with the design of the back of the case. I have the Sahara Beige style, which features an asymmetric pattern on the surface of the case. There is a second style — Shadow Black — that seems to include more rubber/silicone than the Sahara Beige, but I really like the professional feel of the beige option I have.
When I took it out of the box, I had to install the wrist strap that came along with it. There is a silicone loop that is permanently attached to the bottom right corner (if you are looking at the back). The loop is very durable and it’s very easy to slip the strap onto it. I’ve not noticed the strap’s clip coming undone or detaching from the loop in any way. The strap itself is very comfortable. It’s made from a woven fabric (not specified), but feels very smooth against the skin. I would think that active people would have no problem wearing this for long periods of time. My one suggestion would be to include a slip ring on it so that users can cinch it close to their wrist. The strap is designed to be ‘one size fits all’ so the opening is quite large. I could see that being a problem for people who might try to run with this phone attached to their wrist.
I love the frame of this case. It’s very strong but still flexible enough to get the phone in and out of the case without a lot of trouble. The only thing I would really love to see improved about this case is the permanent installation of the loop. Because it’s somewhat rigid, it does get in the way sometimes. I tried to sit the phone on my wireless charger, which is vertically oriented. I ended up having to sit the phone upside down on the charger because the loop prevented the phone from sitting flat on the charger. It would be nice if the loop could be rotated for that sort of phone use.
CONCLUSION
The Altra iPhone Case is a really classy option for covering your smartphone. It has a smart look to it and is quite functional for protection needs. I think some improvements are needed to make this a truly stellar case but I love that its part of the Snap-To mounting system from Moshi. This is a really nice case for iPhone 11 Pro users.
