Luigi Mangione’s name is all over the place the last few days thanks to the high profile killing of United Healthcare CEO, Brian Thompson. As of December 10, Mangione has been charged with second-degree murder as well as several federal firearms-related charges including possession of an unregistered firearm and using a false ID.
Recently, I saw on social media where someone had started a crowd funding account with a fundraising goal of $200,000 for his legal defense. In addition to that, merchandise with the words “Deny, Defend, Depose” are popping up on various places online in reference to the words found on shell casings found near the site of Thompson’s shooting. This led me to wonder why people would see him as heroic rather than a villain.
The rabbit hole of what people think about killers is vast. So far, it seems like there are a lot of mixed reactions, but it seems that more people are for Luigi rather than against him. This might be due to how the healthcare system in the US has treated so many people and thier loved ones so poorly when they needed…
