LectroFan Micro Wireless Sound Machine REVIEW

If there is one thing we all need its sleep. Sleep keeps our minds steady and our bodies balanced. It’s sort of a natural reset button for health. When we don’t get enough sleep, we start experiencing symptoms that lead to other more serious health problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure or stroke. Needless to say, whatever we can do to give our bodies and minds enough sleep each night is the best thing possible.
A lot of people, like myself, have trouble with the very first step of sleep, falling into it. We are tired from the day’s events, but our minds are restless and that keeps us from relaxing when we lay down. Through the years, I’ve tried a variety of different techniques to help me with relaxing my mind — reading, watching TV, listening to music, and even sound machines — but I’ve recently taken to using a white noise generator. There are a lot of different styles and you can even create one through mobile apps, but I prefer a sound machine that does the work for me. My only issue has been the amount of space it takes up on my nightstand. That’s why I really enjoy the LectroFan Micro Wireless sound machine.
LectroFan is actually a series of sound machines designed and produced by Adaptive Sound Technologies, Inc. The company was founded in 2008 with the purpose of developing audio to improve lives. They believe in “a sound machine that redefines the science of sleep” and after using the LectroFan Micro Wireless, I think they may have it.
The LectroFan Micro Wireless is tiny. When it’s folded up, it’s about the size of a plastic condiment container. I am showing it here next to a standard size golf ball. You can see that it’s a very modest size and you can easily carry it with you wherever you go. Aside from its size, the LectroFan has very simple controls located on its side and it recharges using a Micro USB cable. The device comes packaged with a shorter charging cable, but you can use any Micro-USB cable to power it.
The LectroFan Micro Wireless is the mid-range device in the LectroFan product line. That said, it does come with 5 non-repeating fan sounds, 4 non-repeating white noise sounds, and 1 ocean sound pre-programmed into its system. You do have the option of adjustable volume with it and can easily skip through the different sounds that are provided. During my testing of the LectroFan, I was very pleasantly surprised at how well it helped me. To set the stage for this testing phase, you must understand that everyone in our household has different sleep schedules. One particular night, my fiancé and his daughter stayed up past my bedtime (she’s on summer vacation now) and watched TV. My fiancé is hard of hearing so they had the volume up quite a bit. Usually, this type of thing would keep me from falling asleep, but as soon as I turned on the LectroFan, something hit my brain and I was on my way to dreamland. Not only did the noise from the LectroFan help me fall asleep, but I believe it kept me asleep, too. I actually have a sleep tracking device on my bed so I can directly compare my sleep quality from that night to the night before and my sleep score was improved by 4 points plus I didn’t have any wakeups versus the one I had the night before I used the LectroFan.
In addition to being a very nice sound machine, the LectroFan Micro Wireless doubles as an accomplished Bluetooth speaker. And, because of its size, it’s extremely portable. I love that I can close up the unit and toss it in my bag. One of the nice features of the LectroFan Micro is its unique design. It can either be used ‘folded’ up or with the speaker turned outward as shown below. When it’s turned outward, the speaker is actually facing you and you can hear the sound better. The swivel design gives you a choice of how you want to hear your sounds. The LectroFan Micro also has a built-in microphone for use as a speakerphone.
The controls, as I mentioned, are simple and included on the side of the device. There are a power/play/pause, volume up/rewind, and volume down/advance buttons available for use. To use the sound machine feature, you simply press the power button once — short and you will be in the sound machine mode. If you press the power button with a long press, you will enter Bluetooth mode. Once thing I like about the design of this product is the volume control. When it’s it Bluetooth mode, you actually have independent control over the volume on the device itself. You can increase the volume on your mobile device as well as the speaker. It just makes for additional amplification, which is great! The only issue I’ve had with the controls is that I’ve accidentally pressed them without meaning to. I’ve started up the sound machine when I’ve been trying to pack the unit away. It’s not really a big deal, but something that would be nice to remedy in device updates.
The LectroFan Micro Wireless is a great device to have with you no matter where you go. It can help you be more productive as a speaker or help you gain valuable sleep for your next adventure. The LectroFan Micro Wireless is available in black or white.
