Kanex GoPower Watch Stand with Wireless Charging Base

10

Nice space-saving option for charging.

Desk space is always at a premium. It doesn’t matter if I’m in my workspace at home or my desk at work — desk space is precious. I’m also one of those people who spreads out while she works so I really like to have good desk real estate available at all times. With that in mind, I really don’t have room to have both a wireless charger for my iPhone and a charger for my Apple Watch on my desk. When I saw the design of the GoPower Watch Stand from Kanex, I thought that it was worth trying out for my set-up.

DETAILS & FEATURES

The GoPower Stand For Apple Watch + Wireless Charging For iPhone is specifically designed to work with Apple’s mobile devices. The wireless charging pad is a Qi Wireless charging base so it’s compatible with other wireless charging devices, but it’s marketed as an Apple charging accessory. The stand is a 3-in-1 charging device — Apple Watch puck, wireless charging pad, and a USB-A port on the back of the base. The stand comes with a power adapter and you can charge both your iPhone and Apple Watch at the same time. The built-in Apple Watch puck is compatible with both the 38mm and 42mm models.

SPECS

  • Input: DC 5V/3A
  • QI wireless output Power: 5W max @ RX

  • QI Switch frequency: 110K ~ 205KHz

USER EXPERIENCE

The first thing I noticed about the GoPower Stand is how easy it is to get started with it. There is no assembly required. The only thing you have to do is plug the power adapter into the stand and then into a power source. As far as design goes, I love the stand’s small footprint. It takes up a little more space than a standard coffee cup. I also like that the charging areas are essentially stacked — one on top of the other. That said, it can be a little awkward placing your phone beneath the watch if it’s already hanging from the charging puck. You sort of have to slide it beneath the watch. I have the 40mm Nike+ Apple Watch with a Nike Sport Loop as the band. So, the band is somewhat rigid and doesn’t hang too low. I have in the past had a Milanese loop though and I think that would have gotten in the way of the phone resting on the charging pad.

I did a fairly standard charging test using the GoPower Stand. I placed the Apple Watch on its charging puck and the iPhone on the charging pad. Then, I timed their battery percentage increase to find out how much the devices were gaining per minute. For the Apple Watch, I recorded a charging rate of 0.1875% per minute. The iPhone (11 Pro) had a charging rate of 0.33% per minute.

I was really happy with the way the watch and phone were charged. I also really like that the charger — either one — does not get warm when it’s charging. This was a really nice discovery because there are a lot of wireless chargers that get warm and even overheat when something is charging on them.

CONCLUSION

I am very happy with the GoPower Stand For Apple Watch + Wireless Charging For iPhone and can recommend it for any type of user. I think it’s both an efficient way of charging and efficient use of desk space. The price is a little on the high side at $79, but it’s worth it in my opinion.
