Strong, capable case provides drop-protection for AirPods.

When I first got a set of AirPods, I had some serious concerns that the charging case, which in my opinion is the crowning feature of the AirPods, would get damaged. It’s slick and doesn’t have an easy way for users to grip it. Fortunately, case designers started seeing this as an issue and created cases like the SpectrumFrost from ITSKINS.

DETAILS & FEATURES

The Spectrum Frost AirPod Case is designed to provide Drop Safe Protection. It’s made with non-marking Air Cushion Technology. The case is drop-tested (2m) and certified to withstand the impact from that type of fall. “Impact is absorbed, dissipated, and repelled by air cushion technology used along the sides, crowns and the 4 corners of the Spectrum case.” The case is available in several colors — purple, blue, pink, white/clear, black, red, and green.

USER IMPRESSIONS

The Spectrum Frost case comes in a hefty retail box. We actually got prototype versions of the product/packaging to review, but I was really impressed with this version of the product. I don’t know what their plans are as far as the final product/packaging goes, but it’s very well built as-is. The box has a magnetically closed flap that reveals the product inside when you open it up. There is no assembly required with the Spectrum Frost case and installing it on the AirPods charging case is very simple. You just slide the body of the AirPods case into the main body sleeve of the case and then close the top over the top of the AirPods case. There is a tiny suction cup inside the top of the case that holds it in place.

The Spectrum Frost is what I would refer to as a ‘defender’ style case. It’s not a hard plastic case, but it is certainly built for protection first and style second. That said, I really like the look/feel of this AirPod case. It is soft, but firm and is sort of squared-off instead of completely round. This makes the case unique from other AirPod cases I’ve seen or used. The carabiner that comes with it is sturdy, but not what I would call heavy-duty. It’s strong enough for attaching to a bag or keychain, but I don’t know if I would trust it for heavy hiking or other activities like that.

The case is pretty lightweight, which is great because it doesn’t make it hard to carry around. The Lightning port on the bottom of the AirPod case is fully accessible for charging needs. The only thing I’m not a huge fan of is the way the lid opens. When the lid opens, you can get the AirPods out, but it doesn’t stay open without the user holding it open. I believe this is just because the suction cup in the lid is so strong.

CONCLUSION

The Spectrum Frost is a really nice option for an AirPod case. It provides solid protection and is easy to work with. I wish the lid would stay open on its own, but that’s a very small complaint. I can recommend this to any AirPod user.
