If you have kept up with technology, nearly everything you own is powered by USB. You would also have noticed that it is becoming harder and harder to find wall real estate, to charge all of our electronic devices. Some devices come with single USB power bricks and some rely on the fact that you have plenty of them lying around. When most of our devices charge at 1–2.4A, it is not reasonable to plug a single USB adaptor into an outlet that is on a 15A circuit. It is for this reason that I turn to multi-USB power bricks for my USB devices. iClever has a variety of charging options for you, which will keep your devices ready.
The latest generation of the iClever BOOSTCUBE series is a 3-port USB Wall charger with Quick Charge 3.0 (model IC-WQ31W). I am pleased to see that iClever has stepped up their packaging and their most recent devices have a slip cover over the plain cardboard box. The blue edges are very eye catching and the image of the 3-Port USB charger allows you to see exactly what you are getting. Along the top of the box is a QR code, which will take you to www.iclever.com. It is rather odd, however, that the email is written in mirror image on the box. Turning the packaging over, you will notice the product specifications are conveniently listed for you. The charger has a standard A type wall plug and is capable of accepting AC 100–240V 50/60Hz and 1.2 A (max). Each of the output ports is not identical. There is a specially marked lower port, with QC 3.0 capabilities. This port will allow the output of DC power 3.6V-6.5V/3A, 6.5V-9V/2A or 9V-12V/1.5A. The other two ports are capable of 5V/2.4A output. All three of the ports are listed as SmartID ports and will provide the optimal charge for your device. Remember that the current is on demand and your device will call what it needs to charge. In this case, the SmartID ports prevent over voltage/current, over charge, overheating, short circuits and will identify the model of your phone to provide the optimal charge. The website provides a list of QC 3.0 capable devices:Galaxy S7 / S6 / Edge / Edge Plus; Galaxy Note 5 / 4 / Edge; LG G4 / G5; LG G Flex2; Nexus 6; HTC One M8 / M9; Droid Turbo; Xperia Z3 / Z3 Compact / Z3 Tablet Compact / Z4 Tablet and many more. If your device has QC 1.0 or 2.0 capability, this device will still provide improved speeds compared to standard wall chargers.
Within the packaging, you will find the 2 3/8 inch by 2 3/8 inch by 1 3/16 inch wide charger, a six-panel instruction manual and a warranty card (emails and contact information for iClever). The charger has an Apple-esque feel to it, with clean lines and glossy white finish. On one face, you will find the 3 USB A ports, with a surrounding rectangle detailing the SmartID capabilities. The lower port has the QC 3.0 icon above it. Turning the device over, you will find the other face has a retractable Type A wall prong. The prong is really well placed and will allow you to plug the device into the lower outlet, of a standard wall outlet, and leave the upper outlet open. If you plug this into the upper outlet, you will block the lower outlet. However, I was able to invert the device and utilize the lower outlet. As soon as you plug the charger into the type A plug, you will notice a blue backlight emanating from the USB ports. If you have an android device, capable of QC charging, you would want to use the lower USB port. Released in September of 2015, Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, will allow you to charge devices 38% faster than previous QC 2.0 chargers, 50% faster than QC 1.0 chargers, and up to four times faster than a standard wall outlet. Since I only own Apple products, I do not have the capability to test the QC speeds. However, each of the ports will charge as fast as your device requires.
As another added benefit, the device is made of 94V0 fire-proof materials and can bear temperatures up to 750 degrees Celsius (1382 F). With the wide array of input voltages and frequencies, this device is rated for worldwide use. All you will need to enjoy this device is a power prong adaptor and you can enjoy USB charging, wherever there is electricity. With the built in safety mechanisms, the device will enter standby mode if the voltage exceeds 6.3V, the current exceeds 2.7–3.2A or the temperature is greater than 90 degrees. Weighing a mere 4.34 ounces, this device should find its way into your luggage or find its place in every dorm/bedroom across America. The USB ports are very secure and hold the cables very well. Using my DROK USB tester, I was able to show that my iPad Air 2 was charging at 2 Amps from each of the ports, while charging my iPhone 7 plus in another port and my wife iPhone 7 in a third port. Whether you have android devices or iPhone devices, you can truly enjoy maximal charging on 3 of your devices at once. I rate the product at 5/5 stars and would recommend this device to others.
