Premium sound and build quality with a budget-friendly price.
Like most people, I have gotten the point where I need to be totally wireless in my everyday life. My music and phone calls need to be wireless more so than most other facets of my life. I recently found myself in the market for a new set of wireless earbuds. While this is sort of an exciting experience, it’s also quite overwhelming because of all the choices out there. Do I go for pure looks and risk getting a set with terrible sound? Or do I go for the earbuds that have great specs, but look like something from a 60s sci-fi movie? Most of the time, I try to stick with Apple products, but I’m not afraid to venture out to other brands when the occasion calls for it.
The first step in my process was to decide on my price range. While I knew I wanted premium sound quality from my future earbuds, I didn’t want to pay an exorbitant amount for them. Mid-range, or under $100, is my nice safe space. Next, I was looking for design. ‘The look’ of the earbuds is important to me, too, because I didn’t want to walk around with a big and bulky earbud sticking out. The bigger ones tend to fall out of my ears more than smaller ones due to the extra weight and they also place more pressure on my ears which makes wearing them for extended periods of time painful. I just need clear audio, comfort, and a decent price.
I found everything I was looking for with the Edifier TWS1 True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds. I knew Edifier by reputation but had never tried out their headphones until the TWS1s fell into my lap.

Edifier bills the TWS1 earbuds as “a new generation of wireless audio.” They provide up to 32 hours of battery life (with the charging case) and a premium listening experience with the incorporation of Edifier’s TrueWireless Stereo Plus. The earbuds are rated at IPX5 (splash and sweatproof) and use Bluetooth 5.0 aptX for connectivity. Users can experience a connection up to 10m (30ft). The earbuds are designed to be low-profile and ergonomic. They feature touch controls and cVc noise reduction for crystal clear calling. Edifier offers them in black and white.

USER IMPRESSIONS
The first thing I noticed about the Edifier earbuds was their price. At around $50, this is much less expensive than a lot of the premium earbuds that I have used previously. Considering I do love Apple, but not always the price, the TWS1 earbuds are under a third of the price of the Apple AirPods. This is a huge check mark in the win column to me.
One of the biggest features I was looking for and received from Edifier’s TWS1 earbuds was the charging case. I am constantly on the go so I don’t want to drain my battery and then look around for a place to plug my earbuds in and charge. Throwing them in the charging case (which when fully charged gave me around the advertised 24 hours worth of charge time) and letting them sit for a bit as I go about my business, pulling them out a few hours later when the need arises, and have them fully charged is great. The earbuds themselves lasted a little over 7 hours on a full charge for me. This is more than I need pretty much anytime, but it’s nice to know I have that kind of battery life if I ever need it.
The downside to testing out the battery life was that I had to not insert the earbuds into the charging case for a few days because once inserted the magnets hold the earbuds in place and start charging. Great feature, but I do tend to not like charging my devices constantly to extend battery life. The good thing about the charging case is that when you flip it open it will auto connect to the last device that it was used on. There is no turning the earbuds on and waiting to see if it paired. This doesn’t seems like a big deal but when you are in a hurry, it’s huge.
The sound quality of Edifier’s TWS1 earbuds was my biggest concern. This was quickly dismissed. I listen to a wide variety of music, as well as audiobooks, so I was shocked at how crisp and clear the sound was on the highs and lows of my audio streams. Speaking of streaming, there wasn’t a definitive lag on audio while watching videos as I have had with several other earbuds. This is in part due to Bluetooth 5.0 being integrated. Also, you can choose to use only one earbud and still maintain clear, crisp sound quality while leaving an ear free to your surroundings. While in this mode I did try placing a call and to my surprise, the person on the other end heard me fairly clearly for it being a windy day. Now, I have strong battery life, budget-friendly pricing, and premium sound quality all checked off — on to comfort.
The TWS1s aren’t very big. This has been the downfall of many earbuds for me. I have fairly average sized ears, so I do have less trouble with comfort than some. Edifier packed a lot of sound in a small and lightweight earbud. After an hour I didn’t get the discomfort and pressure from the earbud. They do come with 3 different sized ear cushions but the standard ones worked perfectly for me. The only downside for the TWS1s was hitting the side of the earbuds to pause a song take an incoming call. I had to learn to use my thumb and finger, otherwise, I was just pushing it into my ear canal. With that being the only downside for me, the TWS1 is my new everyday earbud that I can throw in my pocket and just get on with my busy day.
