Even though we all make earwax (cerumen), very few seem to know what it is, why we have it, and most importantly, to leave it alone in most cases. Some may have wet wax or dry wax, some produce very little and others, like me, seem to make more than their fair share. Few may know that the ears are self-cleaning and that the mixture is designed to lubricate and protect the ear canal. Most importantly, you should not insert anything into the ears for fear of damage to the specialized organs. Yes, this means that Q-tips and other non-earbud devices should not be inserted into the ears.
Ordinarily, my cerumen does not cause any negative issues. However, when using earbuds like my AirPods Pro, they seem to attract wax like a bug to a zapper. The cerumen tends to bind along the speaker, inside the earcups, and within the charging case. I had previously tried various cleaning options, utilizing cotton-tipped applicators and micro tweezers, but found it difficult to entirely remove the debris. Interestingly, while perusing Facebook, I happened upon a sponsored Facebook Ad for a Multipurpose earphone cleaning pen. I reviewed the images, the product description, and decided to purchase the $15 item to give it a try.
The pen arrived in a 1 1/2 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches tall by 3/4 inches thick retail package. The cover and rear panels provided “Multipurpose cleaning pen…
