Growing up in Southern California in the ‘80s-’90s, my family regularly attended the local county fair in Delmar, California (The Delmar Fair). My sister and I would marvel at the animals, the carnival food/rides, and then walk through the numerous tents/booths to peruse the vendor’s wares. They seemed to have everything from scroll saws, to knives, to cooking equipment, to bags, artwork, toys, etc. It seemed each year we brought home some new cool thing from the fair salespeople.

One year we bought the Miracle Blade Knife set, and another year an entire VitaMix kit. With both of those tools available, my family began to make smoothies from local vegetables/fruits. Yes, I did say vegetables. We would add kale, carrot, and spinach to frozen strawberries and oranges. We would add ice and would enjoy a lovely blended drink. Unfortunately, the VitaMix required a powered outlet and quite a bit of storage space; it was not designed to blend on the go.
