Advanced power in a compact package.

Chargers seem to be a dime a dozen these days. Every phone and tablet comes with one and there is no shortage of third-party product designers creating additional options for providing power to our sacred devices. One of the features I always look for in a wall adapter is compact portability. It must be something that is smaller than what I already use and Aukey nailed that feature with the Omnia Mix 65W Dual-Port PD Charger.

DETAILS

The Omnia Mix 65W Dual-Port PD Charger is powered by Aukey’s OmniaChip, an advanced GaN power IC that brings up to 3x faster charging with less size. It’s capable of charging a 13-inch MacBook Pro and has fast charging for PD-compatible smartphones like the iPhone or Pixel. The charger features Dynamic Detect which allows the charger to identify when both ports are in use versus just one port. The USB-C port can output 65W PD on its own and up to 45W when both ports are being used. The charger is also travel-ready with a foldable plug built-in.

USER EXPERIENCE

One of the first things I noticed about the Omnia Mix charger was its packaging. Like most Aukey products, this power adapter comes in a non-descript brown, cardboard box. It’s well constructed and sturdy, but it is also plain. There is an outline image of the product on the front and the name of the product printed on top. On the back of the box, you will find the model number (PA-B3 in this case) and contact information for the manufacturer. One thing that is odd about this packaging is that it doesn’t actually have the real product name on the box. The box reads, “65W PD Wall Charger,” and when you search for the model number on the website you get the product’s webpage with the name, “Omnia Mix 65W Dual-Port PD Charger.” They are one in the same product, but it would be nice if the names matched.

As far as performance goes, I’ve been very impressed. I’ve charged my 13-inch MacBook Pro with it, a 2019 iPad Pro, and my iPhone 11 Pro. It’s worked really well for those devices and I’m very excited that it incorporates both a USB-A and USB-C charging port into it because I have more flexibility about what I can charge. I love being able to charge my laptop and iPhone from the same charger.

While testing the charger, I calculated the charging rate of the iPad and the iPhone. The iPhone had a charging rate of approximately 0.95% per minute and the iPad averaged 0.9% per minute for a charging rate. These charging rates were calculated by dividing the total percentage gained while charging by the number of minutes the device was plugged in. While each device was charging, they were not being actively used. The charger did not get hot and both devices were charged efficiently and quickly.

CONCLUSION

While there are a lot of options out there for chargers, some a made with better quality than others. Aukey does a great job with their products and I’ve never had a charger fail on me. The Omnia Mix 65W Dual-Port PD Charger Is a remarkable power adapter that is not only portable but also a proficient charging device.
