Powerful adapter in a compact package.

Not too long ago, one of my former co-workers updated her computer to a MacBook Air. She quickly fell in love with it, but fell into the bad behavior of leaving her power adapter at home. There was more than one occasion where she came to me (the only other Apple user in the building) asking if she could borrow my charger. This is why third-party power adapters — like the ones that AUKEY makes — come in so handy. Today, I’m looking at the 20W Power Delivery Wall Charger, which isn’t quite powerful enough to charge laptops, but it’s great for getting a fast charge for mobile phones and tablets.

DETAILS

The Omnia Mini 20W USB-C PD Charger has the ability to “fast charge” iPhones and other devices that support power delivery. It’s extremely compact (about the size of the wall adapter for the original iPhone) and it’s UL certified to protect your devices against excessive current, overheating, and overcharging. The wall adapter does not come with a coordinating cable, but any USB-C cable will work with it. The package contains the wall charger and its user manual. The user manual is multilingual and includes instructions in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Chinese.

USER EXPERIENCE

I’ve reviewed a lot of AUKEY products in the past few years. They are consistent in their quality and performance. That’s why I not only continue to review their products, but I put them to use after the review is done, too. I actually rely on AUKEY products to make sure my devices are charged or have the ability to get a charge. To say I’m a fan of the products they provide is an understatement. With this in mind, I dove into this review with the same expectations that AUKEY products have built for me over the years. I’m glad to say that I wasn’t let down.

The power adapter came in a standard AUKEY brown cardboard box. I was amazed at how small the box was and even more amazed at the size of the power adapter itself. When I removed it from the box I was instantly reminded of the original iPhone 5W wall adapters. This 20W wall adapter is approximately the same size and it provides 4 times the power output that the Apple power adapter does. I was instantly taken with the power adapter for that fact alone.

In order to make sure the power adapter would live up to its specs, I did a charging rate test. It’s a test I do with any charging devices I review. I plug in a device that needs to be charged and record it’s battery life percentage gain over a period of time. In this case, I plugged my iPhone 11 Pro into the charger. At that time, the battery was sitting at 60% power. I let the phone charge for approximately 66 minutes and in that time, the battery gained 37%. That equated a charging rate of 0.56% per minute, which is pretty standard against other fast-charging compatible devices.

CONCLUSION

This is an incredible charging device. It works really well and the only thing I would change about it would be to have the prongs be foldable. I didn’t notice the plug getting too warm while my devices were charging and it’s affordable as a secondary (or even primary) charging device.
