Aukey Focus Duo 30W Dual-Port PD Charger

A fast, compact wall charger.
Last week, we attended Imaging USA, a photography-based convention that comes complete with dozens of learning sessions. I tried to be a sponge and soak up as much as I possibly could. This involved using my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro to take notes, which led to drained batteries. I was trying to travel light so I opted to leave my main charger in the room and stow the Aukey Focus Duo 30W Dual-Port PD Charger in my bag instead.
The benefit of doing this is I not only had a USB-C PD port, but I also had a USB-A port available to charge multiple devices at one time. The full name of the device is the “Focus Duo 30W Dual-Port PD Charger with Dynamic Detect” and it’s a mouth full. So, I decided to just call it the 30W charger. The charger has built-in safeguards that protect devices against excessive current, overheating, and overcharging.
The charger is augmented with Dynamic Detect, which means the USB-C port can output 30W Power Delivery when used on its own. It also has the ability to charge a small laptop with that PD charge. Aukey claims it is compatible with the 12-inch MacBook Air, Nintendo Switch, iPhone XS Max, Google Pixel 3 XL, Samsung Galaxy S10+ among other devices. I was actually able to charge my 2016 13-inch MacBook Pro with it and I was able to charge the battery with it. This laptop actually came with a 61W wall adapter from Apple, but I’ve occasionally found power adapters that will charge it even when they shouldn’t be able to.
In addition to charging my laptop, I also charged a Sony Xperia X10 and an iPhone 11 Pro with this wall charger. It worked famously. I used a USB-C meter to check the output charging capabilities with these different devices and got the following results.
Sony Xperia X10 Mobile Phone: Charged using USB-A port; 4.94V/0.19A
iPhone 11 Pro: Charged using USB-C port; 5.34V/2.2A
13-inch MacBook Pro: Charged using USB-C port; 19.7V/0.61A
