A quick charging solution for media lovers.

I stream a lot of video from my phone. I am one of those people who constantly likes to have audio in the background and sometimes, movies and TV shows are easier for me to have as background noise than music is. As you might imagine, the battery life on my iPhone 11Pro suffers quite a bit because of this. I try to give it breaks throughout the day to replenish its battery, but when I’m working on a lengthy project, I just let videos play. This is also why my purse and laptop bags are weighed down with power banks. Unfortunately, none of them afford me the ability to continue watching videos while the phone is charging unless the phone is laying flat. Thankfully, AUKEY, one of my favorite accessory companies, has released a 10000mAh Wireless Charging Power Bank that comes equipped with a stand and shelf for the phone — the Basix Pro Wireless Charging Power Bank.

DETAILS

The Basix Pro Wireless Charging Power Bank is a portable charging solution for users with Qi-compatible devices. It provides power delivery up to 10W and supports both wired and wireless charging options. In addition to the wireless charging area, the power bank offers a USB-C port and USB-A Quick Charge 3.0 port as well. The wired charging options provide up to 18W total output and users can charge two devices at once. The Basix Pro Wireless Charging Power Bank has a wireless charging stand incorporated for optimized viewing while charging. The power bank recharges using the provided USB-C cable and with a compatible 18W PD charger (not included), it can be fully recharged within 3.5 hours. The battery has a capacity of 10,000 mAh which is enough to charge an iPhone 11 Pro 2.6 times. The power bank also comes with LED indicators built-in. The LED battery indicator shows the battery level and charging status. There is also a dedicated wireless charging indicator.

USER IMPRESSIONS

AUKEY makes some wonderful products, but their packaging is incredibly plain. It gets the job done and protects the products that are housed inside, but they aren’t much to look at. The package is a plain brown cardboard box with a simple illustration on the front. Inside the box you will find the USB-C cable for charging the power bank, the power bank itself, a user manual, and a warranty card. The power bank is just about the same size as my iPhone 11 Pro and although it feels slightly heavier than my phone, it is still very portable. Because it’s so similar in size to my phone it’s easy to slide into my pocket or laptop bag without too much extra weight being added.

I’m pretty well-versed when it comes to power banks and so I really ended up paying attention to the extra features of this device namely the kickstand and phone shelf. The kickstand is sturdy enough to hold the power bank upright. Is it perfect? No, but it gets the job done. The only real concern I had about the kickstand was when it came to folding it out. It seems to fold out with a snap that almost feels like it will break off of the power bank. I’m hoping that over time the hinge doesn’t weaken to the point where this might actually happen. I’m not sure if this is the case with all Basix Pro Wireless Power Banks, but mine certainly does have this issue. When it comes to the phone shelf, I like its simple fold-out motion. It’s a small shelf and one would think that the phone might teeter off of it, but so far, I’ve not had that issue. I do, however, have a case on my phone that might be preventing slippage. Overall, I like the addition of these two features to make a more versatile, useful power bank.

Now as for the operation of the power bank, I decided to test the wireless charging feature first. I popped open the kickstand and phone shelf and set my iPhone 11 Pro on it. After pressing the power button on the power bank, the charging indicator turned on and started flashing, and then my phone showed that it was charging by flashing the battery icon on the locked screen. From here, I checked the percentage of battery that was gained from charging and divided that by the number of minutes it had been charging to get its charging rate. After 21 minutes, the phone gained 8% battery life for a charging rate of 0.38%, which is in line with many of the wireless chargers I’ve used. After I was finished charging the phone, I tested to see if my Urbanista earbuds would charge in their case, which is compatible with wireless charging. I’m happy to report that they charged well just as they should. After charging both those devices wirelessly I am also happy to report that there was very little heat detected on the surface of the charger.

CONCLUSION

AUKEY has a strong history of creating solid products that perform well. I’m really happy to have the Basix Pro Wireless Charging Power Bank as one of my charging devices now. It makes it easy to stay charged and still enjoy streaming media from my phone.
